For my reading bowl I read the book Unfriended by Rachel Vail. Within the book there were a lot of themes. One theme that I thought was very important was the theme of friendship. The book is based off of a girl who is invited to sit with the popular kids during lunch. A lot of drama happens in the group of friends and that's where the theme of friendship comes in. In the midst of all the drama the girls have to figure out who they can trust and who are their real friends. Some of the important characters were Brooke, Natasha, and Truly. Truly was invited to sit with Natasha and Brooke at the popular table one day. About a week later Brooke kicked Natasha out of the popular table. Natasha tried to get revenge on Truly because she believed Truly was the one who wanted her kicked out. Those three characters stood out the most to me. I liked this book in a variety of different ways. I liked how the author changed the narrator every couple of pages. It gave me a sense of how everyone felt in different situations. I also enjoyed how she kept me engaged throughout the whole book with just one situation. The author got into a lot of detail so that I understood the book better. One thing I disliked was how something would be getting interesting with one character and then the narrator would change. Another thing I disliked was the way the kids treated each other. They were selfish and didn't care about anyone but themselves, especially Natasha. I would definitely recommend this book to other people. While the author did a good job describing everything and the book was endearing, I still felt she could have transitioned the characters more effectively and made the characters nicer. - Margaret P
